Province of Limburg: a well-endowed website for a wide range of content

As a public government institution, the Province of Limburg sees its task as providing as much information as possible to as many visitors as possible – and to do so in as structured a way as possible. Service Point Belgium was also ask to assist in developing an intranet that is extremely easy to update and navigate – something that is essential for a province where an enormous number of things happen every day.

But the intranet had to be given a great deal of careful thought, because there were no fewer than 200 editors from every nook and cranny and local government department who updated the content on a regular basis. Service Point Belgium came up with a solution based on Smartsite Professional Edition (later updated to Enterprise Edition), supplemented by Search, Diary, Runtime and SMI modules. What proved decisive in particular in making the choice was the system’s user-friendliness, its extensive standard functionality and advanced capabilities in the area of rights, roles and security. It means that the large flow of new information is easy to channel and control, without involving any loss of time or complicated processing procedures. The result: a well-endowed intranet for a provincial government well-endowed in information. Limburg’s new Internet website www.limburg.be - developed entirely within Smartsite Release 5.3 – went live in Q4 of 2007.

The challenge

To design a multi-channel application for publishing material aimed at the public, council members and staff (Internet, extranet and P-net).

The solution

Management of all sub-sites via Smartsite CMS.

The result

Fast, problem-free update capabilities for all editors in a secure, controlled environment.
